Utilisation of funds in the Mid-Day Meal Scheme
Government of India’s Mid-Day Meal Scheme (MDMS) is the largest public school-feeding programme in the world. Launched in 2001, it provides hot, cooked meals to all government elementary school children every school day. Different states have also initiated similar schemes to reduce drop-out rates.
Assam state government provides meals in 44,340 schools under this scheme, covering close to 89% of school-going children as of FY 2023-2024
